Mark Hazzard's Compositions
Music & Lyrics written by Mark Hazzard
Crazy For Your Love : (2010) Your Place is an intimate setting. I was thinking of how romantic I felt with my sweetheart and wrote about the experience. The nectar is her sweet taste as we kiss in a warm loving embrace.
Easy Lovin: (1972) This song is about freely loving someone yet maintaining autonomy. “Loving you right” means loving, lustful, respectful, exciting. It ends with the statement that it’s a mutual experience, "You'll be taking me there too"
Face To Face: (1974) I was hitchhiking from Santa Barbara to Santa Cruz to see a woman I liked. On the way I realized I had no gift for her so while I was on the side of the freeway, I wrote this song on my guitar and was able to sing it to her when we got together.
Hot Romance: (2010) I wrote this song about an imaginary woman depicted by the women that I see when I play gigs and watch them dance. There appears to be a natural expression when a woman is dancing that brings out her “Goddess” quality.
I Am Amazed: (2010) I am sharing my desire to create a fulfilling relationship with the woman I wrote this song about. I was excited that I met her and was elated by the prospect of love. I felt swept off my feet. The emotions were running deep.
I Just Dream: (2010) We had a first date and the words and music came out with no effort. I started writing and the song materialized in one sitting. The melody occurred as I was writing and I sat at the piano and was finished when I sang the words once.
I Just Want To Tell You: (1973) This song was born from romance as a teenager. The feelings of stealing my heart was so exciting I could hardly stand it. Her parents didn't approve of our relationship so it made it rough for young love to flourish. There was lots of sadness and joy all thrown together.
I Would Like To Thank You: (2002) This song is about a woman who is still a good friend to this day. She expresses herself in a clear concise way which helps me grow to who I’ve become today.
Journey Through The Chrysalis: (1998) I met a lady who had an accident that left her paralyzed. As I became her friend, I was awestruck by her inner strength and beauty. I took her out to the wilderness because thats where she communed with “GOD”. I was sad when she left us, yet she will remain alive through this song.
Makin It Easy: (1976) I was experiencing my feelings about being in a relationship yet I wasn’t clear about my feelings. The woman I was dating was searching for a "daddy" for her children. I wanted to go slow and It ended up being too slow. This song is about being relaxed in any given situation. "Takin it easy, is makin it easy". Love isn't something we fall into, it's something we make.
My Darlin: (2010) I found myself dancing after being single for a while and got excited about the possibility of getting involved romantically. Circumstances had it that we never got past the excitement of meeting and dancing once in a while. It gave me a chance to express my inner desire for a lover and a friend.
Party Time: (1972) I was on the Boardwalk of Santa Cruz with my guitar case open. I had been enjoying some friends company the night before and went to entertain myself while they were at work. The song is about events passing by yet our relationships can last for a lifetime.
Slightly Jazz: (1973) This song started out titled “The Non-conformist” My dad taught me that if I just broke the rules, I would be labeled a misfit. If I followed the rules first and then broke them, it was creative genius. The song establishes a basic theme to start and ends with random flailing on the black keys within the structure. It is fun to play.
So Perfectly Her: (1973) I was longing for my dream lover. The kind awakened by a kiss and then we ride off into the sunset and all is blissful forever. I learned to play guitar so I could sit below a balcony and serenade some lovely maiden in the moonlight under the stars.
Surprise: (1971) I was always in the shadows of a girl in my life. She was heartbroken by a breakup in her life, and I knew I was perfect for her. I just didn’t have the nerve to ask her on a date. So I wrote the song to get the nerve to see her. It never happened.
The Time Of Your Life: (2010) This song is about the excitement and thrill of my emotions. The renewal of exciting and playful energy towards my romantic love interest. The party tonight refers to romantic fantasy. I so want her to affirm that she wants me in her life.
The Way Were Living: (1978) Somehow I thought that by moving, things would be better. The “always there to give” refers to advice people give. The rest of the lyrics refer to giving and sharing ourselves for the good of mankind.
What You Do To Me: (2010) The blues is a style of music that triggers so many types of emotions. Usually about sad events or hardships in life. Well being on the dating scene in my mid fifties has some of those qualities. I wrote this song about my ideal relationship and its romantic flair.
